Shawl Challenge

The next crochet challenge begins March 15th, 2015 as we complete a shawl together. This shawl will definitely challenge you.

You will need the following to complete this challenge:

  • Size H or 5 mm Crochet Hook
  • 4 Skeins of Patons Glam Stripes 239 m / 261 yards per ball or Equivalent Yarn

If you don’t want to use Patons Glam Stripes, let me give you some other yarn brand ideas and the quantities you will need. You need a total of 1044 yards of yarn using a size H or 5 mm crochet hook. This pattern will work better as a solid colour and/or slowly transitioning colours of yarn. Colour changing is up to you to do as your own free creative choice. You are welcome to substitute your yarn with anything you have in stock as well.

You will be given a written pattern, pattern diagram and video tutorial to follow to complete this challenge.

Like any of our challenges, anyone can participate. Stay tuned for March 15th, 2015 as we launch this challenge. Pattern, guidelines and more will be released at that time.

What weight of yarn is it? Double knit, four ply? Aran weight? If we don’t live in the US or Canada these yarns are not always available!

I know I saw a yarn conversion chart somewhere. Maybe even on the Crochet Crowd.
Try googling it. I just don’t remember where…

Thank you for every single thing that you & your team do! You are special kind of person that’s rare & the world needs more like you. You’ve proven that just one individual can change the world & make it a better place! Along the way you invited a handful of others to help you accomplish your goals & now the world is giving back to you…. you deserve good things & you should always be proud of yourself. Cheers! …oh yah, I’m so doing the shawl & learning diagrams. Thanks again! Debbie Joslin, Cherokee Nation, Okla :)

I live far to the south of Mexico, and when I can’t get yarn, I like to use cotton string. It is natural, has a nice drape, and can be dyed any color I choose. It also comes in varying thicknesses. For this, I”d recommend on the thinner side. Whatever you choose, do a gauge swatch, and adjust your hook to the yarn you’ve chosen.
      Good luck! And have fun!

Great info! Is this a long color changing yarn? I’m a full time Fiber Artist, and I’m thinking of using one of my own creations. Also, would you be able to give info for using a lighter weight yarn, such as a fingering/sock yarn?

You’re the BEST, Mikey! THANK YOU!

If I may suggest, choose your fiber, do a gauge swatch and adjust your hook accordingly. I don’t have access to all these wonderful yarns, so I use what I have, and have made some lovely creations

Hi Mikey, I just located your group. It is a wonderful place(site), I have multiple sclerosis for about 7 to 8 years with diagnosis, and a lot of my contacts with other crocheters is on-line. I am doing the mystery afghan, and enjoying it very much. And it has helped with my M.S. keeping my fingers nimble, and my mind sharp. I enjoy your videos, and support that you give durning them. I’m looking forward to this challenge as well. Keep smiling and laughing it helps me not take things so hard.

Mikey believes in complete creative freedom! You may use any type of fiber, any color(s) you choose, and any hook size you like.
All he asks is that all the stitches are there, in the pattern given.
      Good Luck!

I really enjoy watching your challenge videos. I am catching up on the afghan challenge it is really cool I am so excited. I am a visual person so I do prefer videos but since I started watching you I have learned to read a pattern and diagram not perfect but can understand. Thank you so much for all the time you put in to helping us. I am going to make it to one of the cruises that is my goal.

Is this a typo or are you really going to release this challenge on a Sunday and not a Monday? Just curious…I am still waiting on my yarn order to arrive and am anxiously waiting to see if it arrives in time or if I will have to start with my stash or with the recommended yarn that I ordered just for this product. Really appreciate your videos and all that you do. Thank you so much.
